Indeling
Via een glazen pui, kom je bij de lift in de hal van het appartementencomplex. Als bewoner heb je via de lift exclusief en beveiligde toegang tot het entreeniveau van dit torenappartement. Als je de lift uitstapt sta je direct in de voorhal.

Entreeniveau
Via de voordeur kom je binnen op een overloop. Links kijk je in de vide van de woonkamer, en rechts zijn de open trappen. De ‘zwevende’ boekenkast die half in de vide hangt dient tevens als railing. Op dit niveau bevindt zich verder een gastentoilet en een aparte opberg- en wasruimte.

Woonniveau
De woonkamer heeft een vide van 5 meter hoog en een groot raam op het noorden. (Oorspronkelijk was de toren bedoeld als een atelier - waarvoor gelijkmatig noorderlicht belangrijk was). Blikvanger is de Light Sculpture van de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Isamu Noguchi. De kamer heeft een massief houten vloer van Amerikaans Eiken uit dezelfde partij als het aanrechtblad en de eettafel. Over de gehele lengte van de oostelijke muur (8m) is een houten bank ingebouwd, die tevens dient als zitplaats voor de tafel.

De keuken bevindt zich aan de zuidzijde. Deze heeft een massief eikenhouten werkblad en is 95 cm hoog en dieper dan gebruikelijk, namelijk 72 cm. Door de ramen kijk je uit op het levendige plein en in de verte zie je de ZuidAs liggen. Het plafond van de keuken is 4 meter hoog. De keuken is voor de woning op maat ontworpen en bevat koelkast, vaatwasser, gasfornuis, een (losse) oven/magnetron en een design afzuigkap.

Hobbyruimte
Vanuit de keuken ga je via een verborgen luik naar een lager niveau. Hier bevindt zich een ruime hobbyruimte van 25 m2 en 155 cm hoogte. De ruimte is efficiënt ingedeeld door stellingkasten tegen alle wanden, met opbergsystemen, boekenkasten, kledingkasten. Er zijn 2 werkplaatsen gecreëerd. De geïsoleerde ruimte is stil en geschikt als bibliotheek of extra opslagplaats voor voorraad. Een plek waar je letterlijk helemaal verscholen kan zijn.

Dakterras
Via een deur en een trap ga je vanuit het woonniveau naar het zonnige dakterras op het zuiden. Van hieruit heb je een panoramisch uitzicht over het plein en de omgeving. De borstwering is afgewerkt met originele sierdakpannen. Het terras is verder afgeschermd van het algemene dakterras door middel van een privacyscherm. De inrichting is gedaan door een tuinarchitect die met afwisselend bomen en struiken een groen en ruimtelijk geheel gecreëerd heeft.

Slaapniveau
Met de trap bereik je via de overloop eerst de zeer lichte studeer-werkkamer aan de zuidzijde.
Links en rechts van deze kamer bevinden zijn kleine balkonnetjes. Hier bevindt zich een ingebouwd ergonomisch bureau. Zittend of staand achter het bureau heb je uitzicht op de Westerkerk. Aan de westkant bevindt zich een ruime inloopkast.

Vanuit de werkkamer bereik je via een trap het hoogste niveau met slaap- en badkamer. Vanuit de slaapkamer heb je enerzijds een spectaculair uitzicht op de Hoofdweg, anderzijds op de omliggende wijken tot aan Sloterdijk en de havens. De slaapkamer is af te sluiten door een massieve houten schuifdeur. De badkamer is hoog en licht en heeft een raam met uitzicht op het centrum van Amsterdam waarboven je ‘s ochtends de zon kan zien opkomen. De badkamer is ingericht in mediterraan wit/blauw motief met handgemaakte blauwe Italiaanse glastegels, Duravit wastafel, bad, en toilet en vloerverwarming.

Interieur design
De woning is direct na de oplevering grondig verbouwd door de Vlaamse interieur architect Wim de Vos. Hij is winnaar van diverse designprijzen en staat bekend om zijn onconventionele ontwerpen en minimalistisch design. Net zoals Berlage dat in zijn tijd deed, heeft hij ook de keuken en al het (ingebouwde) meubilair speciaal voor de woning ontworpen. Door een aantal gewaagde ingrepen heeft hij veel licht en ruimte weten te creëren. De overheersende kleuren zijn natuurlijke en zachte wittinten.

Layout

Entering the building you pass through a glass door into the lobby. Residents of the tower apartment have exclusive and secured access by elevator which goes up to the entrance level of the apartment. Upon exiting the elevator you enter the front hall of the apartment.

Entrance level
When you enter the apartment through its front door, you come onto a landing. On your left is the void of the living room and on your right are the stairs. The ‘floating’ bookcase hanging in the void also serves as a railing. At this level you will also find a guest toilet and a separate storage and laundry space.

Living level
The living room has a height of 5 meters and a large window facing north. (In 1925 the tower was originally intended as an artists’ studio - for which even northern light is important). The centerpiece is a light sculpture by the American artist Isamu Noguchi. The room has a wooden floor of American oak from the same batch as the kitchen worktop and the dining table. Across the entire length of the Eastern wall (8m) a wooden bench is built in, which now serves as dining table seats.

The kitchen is located at the front (south) side. It has a worktop of solid oak, it’s height is 95 cm, while it is deeper than usual, 72 cm. Looking out of the windows you see the lively square in front of the building and in the distance you can see the high-rise of the Zuidas. The ceiling of the kitchen is 4 meters high. The kitchen is custom designed for the apartment and includes refrigerator, dishwasher, (separate) oven/microwave, and a design extraction hood.

Hobby space
From the kitchen you go through a hidden hatch down to a lower level. Here your find a large hobby space of 25 m2 and 155 cm height. There are shelving units on all walls, with storage space, bookcases, wardrobes. It is now also in use as a work area. This well-isolated room is quiet and suitable as a library, or additional storage room for stock. A place where you literally can be completely hidden.

Roof terrace
Through a door and a steel staircase you go from the living level onto the sunny roof terrace on the south. From here you have a panoramic view on the square and the surrounding areas. The front parapet is decorated with the original decorative tiles. The terrace is divided from the rest of the roof through a privacy screen and plants. The design of alternating trees and shrubs has been made by a landscape architect.

Sleeping level
By way of the stairs you go through the hallway to the office room on the front (south) side. On each side of this room there are small balconies. Here you will find a built-in desk. Sitting or standing behind the desk a you have a view of the Westerkerk. On the west side is a spacious walk-in closet.

From the office room there is a flight of stairs to the highest level with bedroom and bathroom. From the bedroom you have a spectacular view of the Hoofdweg on the one side, and on the surrounding areas to Sloterdijk and the Port of Amsterdam on the other side.The bedroom can be closed by a massive wooden sliding door. The bathroom is high and bright in the morning: from there, you can watch the sun come up over the Amsterdam city center. The bathroom is decorated in a Mediterranean white/blue motif with blue handmade Italian glass tiles, Duravit sink, tub, toilet and floor heating.

Interior Design

After the apartment was newly built, the interior was thoroughly redesigned by the Flemish interior architect Wim de Vos. He has won several design awards and is notable for his unconventional and minimalist designs. As Berlage in his time, he custom designed the kitchen and all built-in furniture to match the apartment. By breaking away walls and making ingenious case and bench constructions he succeeded in making the apartment spacious and bright.

Surroundings

Upon going outside you directly walk into a shopping area. On and around the square you will find a supermarket, several bakeries, a Volendammer fishmonger, a butcher, and much more. The Rembrandt Park and the Erasmus Park are just around the corner. Swimming and fitness can be done at Sportplaza Mercator, the popular and most modern swimming pool in Amsterdam.
In this district one trendy restaurant after another is being opened. Cafe Zurich on the square has become one of the hotspots of Amsterdam West. On summer evenings the terraces around the fountains are filled with people.
As a resident of the Mercator Square you can park for free in the newly renovated garage under the square. By car you pop onto the A10 in a couple of minutes. Tram and bus stop right outside your door, the subway stop is 5 minutes by bike. Within 10 minutes by bike you’re in the middle of the Jordaan, Leidseplein or Vondelpark.
